5 Reasons Your Fave Photographer Might Say No To Your Wedding
Let’s chat about something that can feel a bit gutting during wedding planning…when a photographer you’ve been eyeing up says they can’t take on your wedding. I know it can feel personal, but I promise you, it never is. Most of the time it comes down to a few simple, practical reasons that are worth knowing about if you’re starting your planning journey.
So let’s break it down. Here are the five main reasons your fave photographer might say no to your date.
1. Your Date’s Already Taken
This is hands down the most common one. Certain dates get snapped up fast, especially those summer Saturdays and bank holiday weekends. Photographers can only shoot one wedding a day, so once we’re booked, we’re booked.
If you’ve got your heart set on someone, don’t wait around. Get in touch as soon as you’ve picked your date, even if it still feels ages away. The earlier you enquire, the less chance of disappointment.
And if you’re still deciding on the exact day but know roughly when you’d like, it’s always worth checking in. We can usually let you know our availability across a month or season, which might even help you narrow things down.
2. Their Capacity Has Been Reached
This one’s a biggie and it’s not always obvious from the outside. Most photographers only take on a set number of weddings each year, and for good reason. Behind the scenes, there’s a huge amount of work that goes into every single booking, including editing, emails, timeline planning, albums, admin, travel and more. And we want to do all of that properly, while also showing up fresh and focused on your day.
Saying no sometimes just means protecting the couples we already have in the diary, so they get the best version of us.
3. It’s Not Quite The Right Fit
This might sound a bit awkward, but it’s actually one of the most important ones. Sometimes the style you’re dreaming of doesn’t line up with what we do, or we just don’t feel like we’re the right person to tell your story. And that’s okay!
The relationship between a couple and their photographer is such a personal one, we’re with you all day, in some of your most emotional moments. So it’s really important that you feel 100% comfortable with us and vice versa. If that spark’s not there, it’s better for everyone to recognise that early on.
4. Location Limitations
Not every photographer is able (or wants) to travel far and wide. Some of us prefer to work in certain areas, or within a manageable distance from home. Travel can add a lot of extra time and cost, and for some photographers it’s just not realistic to commit to venues far out of their usual patch. If that’s the case, it’s not about saying no to you, it’s just about working within what’s possible.
The good news is there are so many talented photographers in every corner of the country, so you’ll always be able to find someone brilliant nearby.
5. Our Books Aren’t Open Yet
If you’re planning waaaay in advance, we might not be ready to take bookings for that year yet. It’s not that we don’t want to be part of your wedding, it’s just that we need to make sure we can give each couple the attention and focus they deserve. Planning a wedding is a huge deal and we want to be fully present for every part of your day. Keep an eye out for when we open up, and we’ll be excited to hear from you and chat about your plans!
That being said, if you’re currently planning your own wedding in 2026 or 2027, and looking for a wedding photographer in Aberdeenshire, I’d love to hear from you!
