As a wedding photographer based in the beautiful landscapes of Aberdeen and Aberdeenshire, Scotland, I have the privilege of witnessing and documenting some truly wonderful Scottish weddings.

This includes Claire and Callum’s wedding, which was held on the 26th of August 2023 at Schivas Steading, with their beautiful newlywed photos taken at the nearby House of Schivas.

This day was not just a celebration of love but also a reunion of sorts for me, as Claire is a friend of a friend, and I had the pleasure of knowing the lively and vibrant bridesmaids from my days in a nine-to-five office job.

The morning started with bridal prep, and I knew it was going to be a lot of fun with the girls. There’s something special about capturing the excitement and anticipation in the air as the bride and her bridesmaids get ready for the big day. The laughter, the tears, and the final touches on the makeup and hair – these moments are precious.

Claire and Callum’s wedding took place at Schivas Steading, a beautiful venue known for its glass extension that offers unparalleled views of the Aberdeenshire countryside. Their ceremony was intimate and heartfelt, set against the breathtaking backdrop of rolling hills and lush green landscapes.

Bathed in natural light, the space was perfect for capturing the clear, evident love between Claire and Callum. It was an honour to document their vows and the joy on their faces as they were pronounced husband and wife, surrounded by their loved ones and the stunning Scottish scenery.

After the ceremony, we went to the House of Schivas in Aberdeenshire for most of their newlywed photos. This beautiful location is only a 10-minute drive from the Steading and is on the same estate.

With its well-kept gardens and spacious grounds offering a serene and majestic backdrop, it was the perfect spot for their newlywed photos. The grand House of Schivas and the warm, inviting atmosphere, combined with the pretty countryside, made their love story even more special. It’s obvious why this Aberdeenshire wedding venue is so popular among couples in Scotland.

In the evening, we ventured out again for more photos. You can see Claire and Callum having a wee adventure through the fields near the steading, amongst the wildflowers. The highlight was when they popped a bottle of champagne and sprayed it in celebration – a moment of pure joy and spontaneity.

What stood out to me the most at this wedding were the speeches. It was refreshing to see so many women speaking.

Claire’s mum’s heartfelt words, the bridesmaids’ lovely poem about Claire, and Claire’s own speech added a personal and emotional touch to the day. The poem, in particular, was a beautiful tribute to their friendship, tracing back from nursery to secondary school and then to their working lives.

The reception featured family-style dining with platters of pulled pork and roasted beef, followed by a BBQ-style dessert table. Everything looked spectacular. The informal and relaxed dining setup added to the cosy and intimate atmosphere of the wedding.
