How to Be An ✨Amazing✨ Wedding Guest

Weddings really are one of the most incredible celebrations there is – not just for the couple but for everyone lucky enough to be invited.

As your wedding photographer, I’ve seen how much the vibe from guests can shape the day. So if you want to be the kind of guest couples remember fondly (and make the photographer’s job a dream), here’s a wee guide on how to be an amazing wedding guest.

1. Arrive Early Enough to Settle In

Sounds simple, but you’d be surprised how often guests arrive last minute. Aim to get there with enough time to find the loo, grab a drink and say hi to other guests before the ceremony kicks off.

The seating usually starts around 30 to 15 minutes before the ceremony – and trust me, there’s nothing more awkward than holding up the “I do’s” because someone’s running late. Brides don’t love waiting (and honestly, neither do I!)

2. RSVP On Time (Seriously)

It might sound obvious, but RSVP deadlines exist for a reason – the couple needs to lock in numbers for the venue, catering and seating plans.

Leaving it late can throw a spanner in the works and add unnecessary stress when the big day is just around the corner.

3. Be Present (Put the Phone Away)

This one’s huge. During the ceremony, confetti toss, speeches and the first dance… please, give the phone a break. The newlyweds want to see your happy face in those photos, not your phone blocking the view.

Don’t live the day through a screen, experience it for real!

4. Hold Off on Posting to Socials

I know, I know – you’re eager to post your snaps to your Insta stories on the day!

Social media is brilliant, but hold off on posting until the couple has shared their own photos and videos.

Posting spoilers, especially behind-the-scenes shots, can take away from their special moment. Let them have the first share of how amazing their day was – they’ll appreciate it.

5. Get Up and Dance!

If you want to make the day even better for everyone (including yourself), I urge you to hit the dance floor! Whether you’re a seasoned ceilidh dancer or more of a wallflower, your energy adds so much fun to the celebrations as well as the final wedding gallery photos. Some of the best shots I’ve captured are when guests are genuinely letting loose and having a blast.

Final Thoughts

Being an amazing wedding guest isn’t about fancy outfits and documenting the whole day, it’s about showing up on time, being present and celebrating the couple wholeheartedly. Trust me, these small gestures make a huge difference for the newlyweds and everyone sharing their day.

If you’re gearing up for a wedding soon, keep these tips in mind and you’ll be the guest everyone’s talking about – for all the right reasons.

And if you’re currently planning your own wedding and looking for a wedding photographer in Aberdeenshire, I’d love to hear from you!
