The Most Photogenic Wedding Venues in Aberdeenshire, Scotland
If you’re newly engaged (congratulations!) and starting the exciting search for wedding venues across Aberdeen and Aberdeenshire, you’ll quickly realise one thing… there are SO many beautiful options here.
There’s every type of venue from historic castles and countryside estates to relaxed barn venues surrounded by hills and woodland. No matter your style or preference, the North East has some incredible places to get married.
As a wedding photographer based here, I’ve been lucky enough to photograph weddings across many of these stunning venues. And while every couple and wedding is different, there are certain places that consistently stand out for how well they work, not just for photos, but for the overall feel of a wedding day.
So if you’re currently venue hunting for your 2027 or 2028 wedding, here are some of the most photogenic wedding venues in Aberdeenshire and what makes them such great places to consider!
Aswanley – A Relaxed and Rustic Barn Wedding Venue in Aberdeenshire
Aswanley is one of those venues couples often discover and immediately fall in love with. I can vouch for this, as I got married here myself and absolutely adored it!
Set just outside Huntly, nestled in the Aberdeenshire countryside, it centres around a beautifully restored Victorian barn surrounded by gardens, woodland and open countryside. It’s a brilliant option if you’re looking for a more rustic-style barn wedding venue in Aberdeenshire that still feels elegant and accessible to guests travelling from all over.
From a wedding photography point of view, there’s loads to work with. Clatterin’ Brig is the most stunning house for getting ready in, and the barn itself has gorgeous light and rustic interiors. Outside, you’ve got gardens, woodland paths and beautiful views across the Deveron valley.
Barra Castle – One of the Most Popular Castle Wedding Venues in Aberdeenshire
If you’re searching for castle wedding venues near Aberdeen, Barra Castle is often high on couples’ lists, and for a good reason!
Beautiful Barra sits on a farm estate near Oldmeldrum and combines the show-stopping look of a historic castle with a purpose-built barn where wedding ceremonies take place. For me, this combination works really well for couples – you get the character and backdrop of the castle alongside a spacious modern venue for your ceremony and reception.
One of the standout features is the ceremony space with views towards Bennachie. It’s a pretty special backdrop for saying your vows!
Logie Country House – Perfect for a Wedding Weekend in North East Scotland
Logie Country House is ideal for couples who like the idea of turning their wedding into more than just a single day.
This country house wedding venue in Aberdeenshire offers exclusive use of the entire property, meaning you and your guests can stay onsite and really celebrate for the weekend or over a few days.
From a photography perspective, there’s loads of variety here. The beautiful courtyard works perfectly for group photos and newlywed portraits and the surrounding countryside is great for a wander after the ceremony.
Maryculter House – A Riverside Wedding Venue Near Aberdeen
If you’re looking for a wedding venue near Aberdeen with history, character and beautiful indoor and outdoor ceremony spaces, Maryculter House is well worth considering.
Situated right on the banks of the River Dee, the setting alone makes it an unbelievable place to get married. The gardens and riverside paths are perfect for newlywed portraits, especially in the evening when the sun is setting!
Inside, the venue has a really traditional ‘Scottish’ feel, which suits couples looking for something classic but still versatile.
Ballogie House – A Scenic Deeside Wedding Venue
Ballogie House sits right in the heart of Deeside and feels wonderfully peaceful the moment you arrive. It’s a lovely venue for couples who want to feel surrounded by nature on their wedding day.
For couples searching for country house wedding venues in Aberdeenshire, this is a fab option. The estate is surrounded by woodland and open parkland which is great if you’re looking for an outdoor wedding ceremony. The surrounding land also gives you beautiful natural backdrops for ceremony photos and newlywed portraits.
Cluny Castle – A Dramatic Scottish Castle Wedding Venue
If your wedding vision involves a traditional Scottish castle, Cluny Castle is hard to beat.
Located just outside Inverurie, this historic castle offers exclusive use for weddings, which means the entire space becomes yours for the day! The beautiful on-site chapel is perfect for those dreaming of a church wedding, however your ceremony doesn’t have to be a religious one to be held here. From a photography perspective, it’s an incredible venue I love to work in. The historic rooms inside the castle create a dramatic atmosphere, while the surrounding grounds give couples space to step away for portraits.
It’s a special castle wedding venue that makes an impact from the moment your guests arrive.
Choosing the Right Wedding Venue in Aberdeenshire
When couples start looking at Aberdeenshire wedding venues, one of the biggest challenges is simply narrowing down the options. The good news is there really is something for everyone here whether you’re dreaming of a castle wedding, a countryside barn celebration or a relaxed weekend gathering with family and friends.
My biggest piece of advice is to choose somewhere that feels like an authentic match for you both. Your wedding venue is worth taking the time to find and should be a place that you’re genuinely excited to get married at!
